The Fall 2018 semester has begun and there is a lot in store for students. Regardless of whether students new or returning members of the High Point University community, the college is running several events to help prepare them for the months ahead.
After students have arrived and gotten settled in their dorms, the HPU Men’s soccer team will be facing off against UNC Wilmington at Vert Stadium. It will be followed by a fireworks display, but that will be just the beginning of HPU Welcome Week.
The introduction to the university will truly start with the Sunday Convocation, where newcomers will be able to hear from several key figures at the college, including the world-renowned speaker and president of the university, Nido Qubein.
Busses will be departing from Slane in the afternoon of Aug. 20 to give a tour of the surrounding areas. Students will be shown multiple hotspots for activity that they can spend their time at, including restaurants and stores that are popular among their peers.
One event that always generates excitement is an activity that allows audience members to participate. Tuesday at 9 p.m. there will be a feature performance from a hypnotist in the Cottrell Amphitheater, where a handful of the willing viewers will be selected to join in the show and be placed under a hypnotic spell.
The next day will feature the Religious Life Expo in the fellowship hall of the Chapel, which is where newcomers will be able to discover more information about the faith-based communities on campus.
That same evening, the R&B group known as Final Draft will be bringing their voices to the Hayworth Amphitheater to give HPU students and faculty a thrilling show.
All of this excitement builds up to Derby Day on Aug. 25. The Crowder Intramural field will be full of activity, with inflatable slides, obstacle courses, bean bag tosses and several other games. Participants will also get to satisfy the appetite they will have built up with food from the local food trucks that will be set up at the field.
There are a multitude of events to take part in during HPU’s first week of the semester, and everyone will be able to find some activity that will suit them.
